PART TWO

MODULE TWO – EMOTIONAL HEALING AND BECOMING A HERO

From the defensive “ego-states” of a hurt child to the “power forces” of an inner hero

Overview:

The second module is dedicated to working with, transforming, and overcoming difficult emotions such as anger, rage, fear, shame, submission, or self-criticism that have arisen from relationship wounds. We use the “yoga resource” from as a safe and stabilizing body anchor and let our clients discover, when the “ego-states” arise.

We express, feel, and empower the “ego-states” to explore, whom they cover up. Deep emotional healing of the “inner child” follows along the “ladder of activation” (from freeze to flight to fight till the feelings of sadness and letting go). BMDR (Body Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for the integration of the “little Ego” and the “powerful resource state”.

Then we discover and integrate new helpers instead of the earlier ego-states: the superpowers. We use Maslow’s positive psychology and find the appropriate “virtues” and implement them in the body. Every child or teenager can be his own hero on a “hero’s journey”. With this “archetype” we build motivation for deep healing and prepare the trauma-confrontation.

The hero has always access to the world “above”, the kingdom of the “soul” – to his intuition and “meta-cognition” (mindfulness, meditation). We learn how to work with Dan Siegel’s “Wheel of Awareness” for children / teenagers as “tool” for trauma-healing.

Content:

  • Working with “ego-states” when the “little me” feels threatened (fear, panic, “freeze”, anger, hate etc.)
  • How to change the “the monster”, “frozen frog”, “critical demon” etc.) with body-tools.
  • How to protect the “little me” in a new way (without “ego-states”) as a “hero”.
  • How to work with “ego-states” with teenagers overcoming shame and shyness.
  • The hero’s journey as a master plan for psychotherapy and healing – overcoming fear and hate.
  • A hero needs better helpers than the “ego-states”: Using Maslow’s positive psychology to find “virtues.”
  • Integration of the “helpers” into the body centers (qualities like courage, friendship, love, empathy, etc.) to strengthen the “yoga-resource”.
  • Including mindfulness into the body work, using the “Wheel of awareness” of Dan Siegel in a body-oriented way for children or teenagers.
  • Combining the power figure of “hero’s journey” with the skills of meditation / mindfulness.
